Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Assistant Objects Conservator to join our dedicated conservation team. This role is crucial in ensuring the preservation and restoration of our diverse collection of objects, utilizing both traditional and contemporary conservation techniques. You will collaborate with experienced conservators to maintain the integrity of our artifacts while contributing to ongoing research and educational initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the examination, documentation, and treatment of objects in accordance with established conservation standards and practices.
- Conduct condition assessments and develop treatment proposals in collaboration with senior conservators.
- Support the preparation and execution of conservation treatments, including cleaning, stabilization, and restoration of various materials.
- Maintain accurate records of all conservation activities, including photographic documentation and treatment reports.
- Participate in research projects related to conservation techniques and materials, contributing to the advancement of the field.
- Collaborate with colleagues across departments to facilitate exhibitions and loans, ensuring the safe handling and transport of objects.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Conservation, Art History, Archaeology, or a related field.
- Demonstrated knowledge of conservation principles and practices, particularly in the treatment of diverse materials.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred:
- Experience in a museum or cultural heritage institution.
- Familiarity with the ethical guidelines and standards of conservation.
- Working knowledge of conservation science and materials.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in the use of conservation tools and equipment.
- Familiarity with digital documentation practices, including photography and imaging software.
- Basic understanding of materials science as it relates to conservation.
