Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and passionate Assistant State Archivist to join our team in a fully remote capacity. In this role, you will play a crucial part in preserving and managing historical records, ensuring their accessibility for future generations, and supporting the mission of safeguarding our state's heritage.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the development and implementation of archival policies and procedures to ensure the preservation and accessibility of state records
- Manage the acquisition, organization, and cataloging of archival materials, including digital and physical records
- Conduct research to support archival projects and assist researchers in accessing records
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to promote archival resources and engage the community in historical preservation initiatives
- Participate in outreach activities, including workshops and presentations, to educate the public about the importance of archival collections
- Support the development of digital archiving strategies and assist in the digitization of records for broader access
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Archival Science, Library Science, History, or a related field
- Experience in archival management, preservation techniques, and digital archiving
- Strong knowledge of records management principles and practices
- Excellent organizational and project management skills with attention to detail
Preferred:
- 2+ years of experience working in an archival or records management environment
- Familiarity with archival software and metadata standards
- Experience in conducting public outreach or educational programming
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in using archival management software and digital asset management systems
- Experience with digitization tools and techniques
- Knowledge of data preservation formats and standards
