Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and knowledgeable Collections Librarian (Serials) to oversee the management, acquisition, and organization of serial publications within our digital library system. In this fully remote position, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring that our collection of periodicals, journals, and other serials remains comprehensive, up-to-date, and accessible to our diverse user base.
Responsibilities
- Manage the acquisition and cataloging of serials, ensuring adherence to established standards and protocols
- Conduct regular assessments of the serials collection to identify gaps, redundancies, and opportunities for enhancement
- Collaborate with faculty and academic departments to align serials acquisitions with research and curriculum needs
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the effective management of serial publications
- Utilize library management systems to maintain accurate and detailed records of serial holdings
- Provide expert guidance on serials-related inquiries and support for patron access issues
Required Qualifications
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science or equivalent
- 2+ years of experience in library collections management, with a focus on serials
- Experience with integrated library systems (ILS) and digital library platforms
- Strong knowledge of cataloging standards and metadata frameworks, including MARC and RDA
- Excellent analytical and organizational skills, with a keen attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in electronic resources management and subscription workflows
- Familiarity with library assessment methodologies and data analysis
- Proficiency in using discovery tools and research databases
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Experience with library management software (e.g., Ex Libris Alma, OCLC WorldShare)
- Proficient in using bibliographic databases and citation management tools
- Familiarity with Open Access and scholarly publishing trends
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to engage diverse stakeholders
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects concurrently in a remote environment
