Role Overview
The Assistant Periodicals Librarian plays a critical role in managing and enhancing our periodicals collection, ensuring that diverse and relevant resources are accessible to our community. You will collaborate with faculty, staff, and students to promote the use of periodicals and assist in the development of library services that support research and learning.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the acquisition, organization, and management of periodicals, including print and electronic formats.
- Provide reference and instructional support related to periodical resources, guiding users in effective research strategies.
- Collaborate with library staff to develop outreach activities that promote periodical usage and engagement.
- Conduct periodic assessments of periodicals collections to ensure alignment with user needs and institutional goals.
- Stay updated on trends and best practices in periodicals management and library services.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master’s degree in Library Science or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program.
- Experience working in a library setting, with a focus on periodicals or collections management.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Preferred:
- Familiarity with library management systems and electronic databases.
- Experience conducting user education or instructional sessions.
- Knowledge of current trends in scholarly publishing and open access.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency with library management software (e.g., ILS systems).
