Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Library Services (Periodicals) to lead our library's periodicals department. In this pivotal role, you will be responsible for developing and implementing innovative library services that enhance access to periodicals, foster user engagement, and support the overall mission of promoting information literacy and lifelong learning.
Responsibilities
- Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for the acquisition, management, and dissemination of periodicals, ensuring alignment with user needs and institutional goals.
- Oversee the library's periodicals collection, including print and electronic formats, and evaluate resources for relevance, accessibility, and impact.
- Lead a team of library professionals, providing mentorship, guidance, and performance evaluations while fostering a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement.
- Engage with faculty, students, and other stakeholders to promote periodicals services and enhance user experience through outreach initiatives and educational programming.
- Analyze usage data and trends to inform decision-making and optimize resource allocation and service delivery.
- Collaborate with other departments to integrate periodicals services into broader library initiatives and strategic planning efforts.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Library and Information Science (MLIS) or equivalent.
- 5+ years of experience in library services, with a focus on periodicals or similar collections.
- Proven leadership skills and experience managing teams in a library or information setting.
- Strong understanding of current trends in periodicals publishing and access, including digital resources.
Preferred:
- Experience with library management systems and electronic resource management tools.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and implement user-centered services and outreach programs.
- Published research or presentations in library science or related fields.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
