Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Head of Government Documents and Information Services to lead our efforts in delivering high-quality, accessible, and efficient document and information management services. In this pivotal role, you will drive the vision and execution of information services that support government operations, enhance transparency, and improve public access to information.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive strategy for government documents and information services, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
- Oversee the management of document lifecycle processes, including creation, storage, retrieval, and disposal, while optimizing workflows for efficiency and compliance.
- Lead a team of professionals, providing mentorship and fostering a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with government agencies and stakeholders to identify needs and enhance information access, usability, and dissemination.
- Conduct audits and assessments of information services to ensure adherence to best practices, standards, and legal obligations.
- Champion the adoption of emerging technologies and data management practices that enhance information services and user experience.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Library Science, Information Management, Public Administration, or a related field.
- 10+ years of experience in information management, with at least 5 years in a leadership role overseeing government documents and information services.
- Demonstrated expertise in document management systems, archival practices, and compliance with federal and state regulations.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to navigate complex regulatory environments.
Preferred:
- Experience working with government entities or nonprofit organizations focused on public information access.
- Familiarity with data privacy regulations and their implications for information services.
- Proven track record of successful project management and strategic planning.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in document management systems (e.g., SharePoint, Alfresco), electronic records management, and information retrieval technologies.
- Knowledge of metadata standards, classification schemes, and data governance frameworks.
- Experience with data analysis tools and methodologies to assess service effectiveness and user engagement.
