Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Head of Reference Services (Archives) to lead our reference services team in the effective management and dissemination of archival materials. This role is instrumental in shaping our reference strategy, enhancing user engagement, and ensuring that our rich archival collections are accessible and utilized effectively.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive reference services strategy that aligns with our organizational goals and enhances access to archival materials.
- Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of reference specialists, fostering a culture of excellence, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to identify user needs, trends, and opportunities for enhancing reference services.
- Oversee the development and delivery of training programs for staff on archival reference practices and user engagement strategies.
- Utilize data analytics to assess service effectiveness, user satisfaction, and areas for enhancement.
- Engage with diverse communities to promote archival collections, ensuring inclusivity and broad accessibility.
- Represent the organization at professional conferences, workshops, and community events to enhance visibility and foster partnerships.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Master's degree in Library Science, Archival Studies, or a related field.
- 7+ years of experience in reference services or archival management, with a proven track record of leadership.
- Strong knowledge of archival principles, practices, and technologies.
- Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly to diverse audiences.
Preferred:
- Experience in developing and implementing user-centered services within a digital archiving context.
- Demonstrated ability to lead projects and initiatives that enhance user engagement with archival materials.
- Familiarity with current trends in archival research, digital preservation, and metadata standards.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient with archival management systems and digital asset management tools.
- Experience with data analytics tools to measure service effectiveness and user engagement.
- Familiarity with digital preservation practices and standards.
