Role Overview
We are looking for a highly skilled Principal Piping Designer to join our engineering team at [$COMPANY_NAME]. In this role, you will lead the design and development of piping systems for complex projects, ensuring compliance with industry standards and safety regulations while mentoring junior designers and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams.
Responsibilities
- Lead the design of piping systems, including layout, specification, and material selection for various projects
- Collaborate with engineers and project managers to ensure designs meet project requirements and specifications
- Conduct thorough reviews of design documentation, ensuring accuracy and completeness
- Mentor and guide junior piping designers, fostering an environment of continuous learning and technical excellence
- Evaluate and implement industry best practices, codes, and standards in design processes
- Participate in project meetings, providing technical insights and updates on piping design progress
- Oversee the preparation of isometric drawings, piping specifications, and bill of materials
- Conduct field surveys and inspections to assess existing conditions and gather necessary data for design
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related field
- 10+ years of experience in piping design within the oil & gas, petrochemical, or power generation industries
- Proven expertise in 3D modeling software such as AutoCAD, PDMS, or similar
- Strong understanding of piping codes and standards (ASME, API, etc.)
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
Preferred:
- Professional Engineer (PE) license or equivalent certification
- Experience with stress analysis software (e.g., Caesar II, ANSYS)
- Familiarity with project management tools and methodologies
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in piping design and layout, including experience with various materials and applications
- Proficiency in 3D design software such as AutoCAD Plant 3D or similar
- Ability to conduct stress analysis and ensure structural integrity of piping systems
- Knowledge of industry-standard design software and tools
