Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Certified Optometric Assistant to join our team and support our mission to enhance patient care through innovative eye health solutions. In this fully remote position, you will play a crucial role in assisting optometrists during patient examinations and ensuring the smooth operation of our virtual practice.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for eye examinations by obtaining medical histories and performing preliminary tests such as visual acuity and tonometry.
- Assist optometrists during examinations by providing necessary instruments and maintaining a sterile environment.
- Educate patients on proper contact lens care and offer guidance on eye health best practices.
- Manage patient records and assist with the scheduling of appointments and follow-ups in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
- Support the optometry team by handling administrative tasks, including billing and insurance verification processes.
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements in optometry practices to provide informed patient interactions.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Certification as an Optometric Assistant or equivalent experience in a medical assisting role.
- Strong understanding of optical terminology and procedures.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex information in a patient-friendly manner.
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in an optometry setting.
- Knowledge of optical dispensing and lens technologies.
- Proficiency in managing patient communications through digital platforms.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with optometric diagnostic equipment such as autorefractors and visual field analyzers.
- Proficient in using EHR and practice management software.
- Ability to navigate remote communication tools for effective patient interactions.
