Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Ophthalmic Technician to join our dedicated team at [$COMPANY_NAME]. In this in-person role, you will play a crucial part in assisting ophthalmologists with a variety of clinical tasks, ensuring that our patients receive the highest standard of care during their visits.
Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive patient history intake and record vital signs, including visual acuity, intraocular pressure, and ocular measurements
- Assist in administering diagnostic tests such as visual field tests, OCT, and fundus photography
- Prepare and maintain examination rooms, ensuring all equipment is sanitized and functioning properly
- Educate patients on pre- and post-operative care instructions, as well as general eye health
- Collaborate closely with ophthalmologists to provide thorough patient care and facilitate smooth clinic operations
- Document patient information accurately in electronic health records (EHR) systems
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; certification in ophthalmic assisting is preferred
- 1+ years of experience in a clinical setting, preferably in ophthalmology or optometry
- Strong understanding of ocular anatomy and eye diseases
- Proficient in the use of diagnostic equipment and EHR systems
Preferred:
- Certification as a Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or equivalent
- Experience with patient education and customer service in a healthcare environment
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in using ophthalmic diagnostic equipment such as autorefractors, keratometers, and visual field analyzers
- Familiarity with EHR systems, especially those specific to ophthalmology
- Basic knowledge of optical principles and corrective lens fitting
