Responsibilities
- Perform comprehensive ocular examinations using advanced diagnostic equipment such as optical coherence tomography (OCT), fundus photography, and visual field testing
- Assist ophthalmologists during various procedures, including cataract surgery and laser treatments, ensuring a sterile and efficient environment
- Manage patient flow and maintain accurate patient records in compliance with HIPAA regulations
- Provide education to patients regarding their ocular health and treatment options, ensuring they are well-informed
- Supervise and mentor junior technicians, fostering an environment of learning and professional growth within the team
- Participate in the development and implementation of departmental protocols and quality improvement initiatives
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as an ophthalmic technician in a clinical setting
- Certified Ophthalmic Technician (COT) or equivalent certification
- Strong knowledge of ocular anatomy and common ocular diseases
- Proficient in the use of electronic medical records (EMR) systems and other relevant technologies
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team
Preferred:
- Experience with advanced imaging modalities and surgical assistance
- Leadership experience and a history of process improvement in a clinical setting
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in operating diagnostic equipment such as OCT, visual field analyzers, and fundus cameras
- Knowledge of EMR systems and telemedicine platforms
- Familiarity with surgical instruments and procedures in ophthalmology
