Role Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Junior Medical Records Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for the organization, maintenance, and management of medical records, ensuring compliance with all regulatory requirements and enhancing patient care through accurate recordkeeping.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, classification, and organization of medical records in both electronic and physical formats
- Ensure timely and accurate data entry into electronic health record (EHR) systems
- Support audits and compliance checks by ensuring records are accessible and complete
- Respond to requests for medical records from healthcare providers and patients in a timely manner
- Maintain confidentiality and security of all patient information in accordance with HIPAA regulations
- Participate in training sessions and professional development opportunities to enhance knowledge of medical records management
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; an associate's degree in health information management or a related field is a plus
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills
- Basic understanding of medical terminology and healthcare regulations
- Proficient in using computer systems and software, including EHR systems
Preferred:
- Previous experience in a healthcare or medical records environment
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations and medical record management practices
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Experience with electronic health record systems (e.g., Epic, Cerner)
- Knowledge of medical coding systems (ICD-10, CPT) is a plus
