Role Overview
We are looking for a detail-oriented Junior Medical Records Technician to join our healthcare team. In this role, you will support the management of patient records, ensuring accuracy, compliance, and accessibility while adhering to confidentiality standards. You'll play a vital part in maintaining the integrity of medical documentation, which is crucial for patient care and organizational efficiency.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the collection, organization, and maintenance of medical records in both electronic and paper formats
- Ensure all patient information is accurately entered and updated in the electronic health record (EHR) system
- Support the coding and classification of medical records for billing and statistical purposes
- Conduct regular audits of medical records to ensure compliance with healthcare regulations and policies
- Collaborate with healthcare providers to obtain missing or incomplete documentation
- Respond to requests for patient information from authorized personnel in accordance with privacy regulations
- Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge in medical records management
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Associate degree in Health Information Technology or a related field
- Familiarity with medical terminology and healthcare documentation standards
- Basic understanding of HIPAA regulations and patient confidentiality
Preferred:
- 1+ years of experience in a medical records or healthcare administrative role
- Certification as a Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) or willingness to obtain certification within 2 years
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Familiarity with EHR software and medical coding systems
- Ability to navigate and manage databases effectively
