Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Medical Records to lead our health information management department at [$COMPANY_NAME]. Responsibilities
- Develop and implement policies and procedures for the management of medical records in accordance with legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards.
- Lead a team of health information professionals to ensure accurate and timely documentation of patient care.
- Oversee the electronic health record (EHR) system, ensuring optimal functionality and user support.
- Collaborate with IT to enhance data security measures and maintain patient confidentiality.
- Monitor and audit medical records for compliance and quality assurance, developing initiatives for improvement as needed.
- Provide training and support for staff on medical records management best practices and regulatory requirements.
- Serve as a liaison between clinical staff, administration, and external agencies regarding medical records issues.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management, Health Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in medical records management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
- Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or equivalent certification.
- In-depth knowledge of HIPAA regulations and medical record retention laws.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in Health Information Management or related field.
- Experience with EHR implementation and optimization.
- Proven track record of leading successful quality improvement initiatives.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Expertise in electronic health record systems, preferably Epic, Cerner, or similar platforms.
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools.
- Understanding of health information exchange (HIE) principles and practices.
