Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Director of Medical Coding to lead our coding operations and ensure compliance with healthcare regulations. In this pivotal role, you will drive the evolution of our coding practices, enhance operational efficiencies, and contribute to the overall success of our organization.
Responsibilities
- Lead and manage the medical coding team, ensuring high standards of accuracy and compliance with coding guidelines and regulations
- Develop and implement coding policies, procedures, and best practices to optimize workflow and productivity
- Monitor and analyze coding performance metrics, providing actionable insights for continuous improvement
- Collaborate with clinical and operational teams to align coding practices with clinical documentation and reimbursement policies
- Stay abreast of coding updates and changes in regulations, providing training and guidance to coding staff
- Engage in strategic planning to enhance the coding function within the organization, including technology adoption and process reengineering
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 10+ years of experience in medical coding, with at least 5 years in a leadership role
- Strong knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems
- Experience with coding audits and compliance, ensuring adherence to relevant regulations
- Proven ability to lead and mentor coding teams, fostering a culture of excellence and accountability
Preferred:
- Professional certifications such as CCS, CPC, or RHIT are highly desirable
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software
- Demonstrated success in process improvement initiatives within coding operations
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Advanced proficiency in medical coding software and tools
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret complex data and reporting
- Familiarity with healthcare regulations and compliance standards
