Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Health Information Coding Manager to lead our coding team in ensuring the accuracy and compliance of medical coding practices. This role will involve overseeing daily operations, developing coding strategies, and enhancing coding efficiency while ensuring adherence to healthcare regulations and standards.
Responsibilities
- Manage and mentor a team of health information coders, providing guidance and support to promote professional development and maintain high-quality standards.
- Oversee the coding process for medical records, ensuring accurate and timely coding of diagnoses and procedures in accordance with the latest coding guidelines.
- Implement and monitor performance metrics for coding accuracy and productivity, driving continuous improvement initiatives across the team.
- Develop and deliver training programs for coding staff to keep them updated on changes in coding regulations, policies, and best practices.
- Collaborate with clinical staff, compliance, and revenue cycle teams to address any coding-related issues and enhance overall operational efficiency.
- Conduct regular audits of coded data and provide feedback to coders to ensure compliance with CMS and other regulatory requirements.
- Stay current with industry trends and changes in coding practices, ensuring the organization remains compliant and competitive.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Health Information Management, Nursing, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in medical coding, with a minimum of 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role.
- Active coding certification (e.g., CPC, CCS, CCS-P, or RHIT) from a recognized organization.
- In-depth knowledge of ICD-10, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems, as well as federal and state regulations governing medical coding.
Preferred:
- Experience with electronic health record (EHR) systems and coding software.
- Demonstrated success in process improvement and team leadership within a healthcare setting.
- Master’s degree in Health Information Management or related field.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in medical coding software and EHR systems.
- Strong analytical skills to evaluate coding accuracy and compliance.
- Experience with data analysis tools and reporting software.
