Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced Forestry Crew Supervisor to lead and manage a team of forestry technicians and laborers in executing various forestry operations. This is a hands-on role requiring a deep understanding of forest management practices, safety protocols, and crew leadership to ensure efficient and effective operations in the field.
Responsibilities
- Oversee daily forestry operations, including tree planting, thinning, and harvesting, ensuring compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations.
- Supervise and train crew members in forestry best practices, equipment operation, and safety procedures.
- Develop work plans and schedules, allocating resources effectively to meet project deadlines and objectives.
- Monitor crew performance and provide constructive feedback to enhance productivity and safety.
- Conduct regular inspections of work sites, ensuring adherence to quality standards and addressing any issues promptly.
- Collaborate with upper management and forestry professionals to align on project goals and strategies.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in forestry operations, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role.
- Strong knowledge of forestry practices, equipment, and safety standards.
- Proven ability to lead and motivate a diverse team in a dynamic outdoor environment.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to operate forestry equipment.
Preferred:
- Certification in forestry or related field.
- Experience with GIS mapping and forestry management software.
- Knowledge of local flora and fauna, as well as environmental regulations.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in using forestry-related tools and equipment, including chainsaws, chippers, and vehicles.
- Familiarity with GPS technology and mapping software for project planning and execution.
- Basic knowledge of reporting and data management systems used in forestry operations.
