Role Overview
We are seeking a Laboratory Animal Facility Manager to lead the operations and management of our state-of-the-art facility. This role is critical in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards while fostering a culture of ethical animal care and welfare. You will oversee personnel, resources, and protocols to ensure the highest quality of support for our research initiatives.
Responsibilities
- Manage the day-to-day operations of the laboratory animal facility, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and guidelines.
- Supervise and mentor a team of animal care staff, fostering a positive work environment and promoting professional development.
- Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for animal husbandry, health monitoring, and facility maintenance.
- Coordinate with researchers to ensure optimal animal care and resource allocation for their projects.
- Oversee the procurement and inventory management of laboratory animals and supplies.
- Maintain accurate records of animal care practices, health assessments, and facility operations.
- Conduct regular inspections of the facility to ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
- Facilitate training programs for staff on animal care practices and regulatory compliance.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Biology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in laboratory animal science, including supervisory experience.
- Strong knowledge of laboratory animal care regulations and standards (e.g., IACUC, AAALAC).
- Demonstrated ability to manage staff effectively and promote a positive team culture.
Preferred:
- Certification as a Laboratory Animal Technologist (LATG) or equivalent.
- Experience in a hybrid work environment, balancing in-person and remote management.
- Advanced degree in a relevant field.
- Familiarity with electronic record-keeping systems for animal management.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficiency in animal care and husbandry techniques, including health monitoring and breeding protocols.
- Experience with facility management systems and compliance tracking tools.
- Understanding of biosafety and biosecurity practices in laboratory settings.
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
- Exceptional leadership and organizational skills, with a focus on ethical animal care.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly in training and reporting.
- Ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams and build relationships with researchers.
