Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic and experienced Director of Hatchery Operations to oversee the daily operations of our hatchery facilities. In this critical role, you will implement best practices in hatchery management, optimize production processes, and ensure the highest standards of biosecurity and animal welfare. Your leadership will be essential in driving operational excellence and achieving production targets while fostering a culture of continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
- Lead the management of hatchery operations, including incubation, hatching, and chick delivery, ensuring optimal production efficiency and quality
- Develop and implement operational strategies to maximize productivity while minimizing costs
- Establish and maintain biosecurity protocols to safeguard flock health and maintain compliance with industry regulations
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to align hatchery operations with overall production and supply chain goals
- Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) and implement corrective actions as needed to achieve operational targets
- Manage and mentor a diverse team of hatchery staff, fostering a culture of safety, accountability, and professional growth
- Lead training initiatives to enhance staff skills and knowledge in hatchery best practices
- Stay current with industry trends and advancements, implementing innovative technologies and methodologies in hatchery operations
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor's degree in Animal Science, Agriculture, or a related field
- 8+ years of experience in hatchery operations or poultry production, with a proven track record of leadership
- Strong knowledge of incubation technology, hatchery management practices, and biosecurity protocols
- Exceptional analytical and problem-solving skills, with a data-driven approach to decision-making
Preferred:
- Master's degree in a relevant field
- Experience with process improvement methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma
- Familiarity with automated hatchery systems and data management software
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in hatchery management software and data analysis tools
- Understanding of biosecurity measures and animal health management
- Experience with budget management and financial forecasting
