Role Overview
We are looking for an experienced Aquaculture Manager to oversee and enhance our aquaculture operations. In this role, you will be responsible for managing production systems, optimizing growth conditions, and ensuring sustainable practices while leading a team of aquaculture specialists. Your expertise will directly impact the quality and efficiency of our operations as well as contribute to our mission of promoting responsible aquaculture.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement aquaculture production strategies to maximize yield and quality of aquatic species.
- Oversee daily operations of aquaculture facilities, ensuring adherence to best practices in water quality management, feeding protocols, and biosecurity measures.
- Conduct regular assessments of stock health and growth performance, utilizing data analytics to inform decision-making.
- Lead and mentor a diverse team of aquaculture technicians and staff, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and safety.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including research and development, to integrate innovative practices and technologies into operations.
- Ensure compliance with environmental regulations and industry standards, proactively addressing any potential issues.
- Manage budgeting and resource allocation to optimize operational efficiencies and reduce costs.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Aquaculture, Fisheries Management, Biology, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in aquaculture management or related roles, with a proven track record of successful production operations.
- Strong understanding of aquatic species biology, water quality management, and sustainable aquaculture practices.
- Excellent leadership and team management skills, with the ability to motivate and develop staff.
- Proficiency in data analysis and the use of aquaculture management software.
Preferred:
- Master’s degree in a relevant field.
- Experience with advanced aquaculture techniques such as recirculating aquaculture systems (RAS) or integrated multi-trophic aquaculture (IMTA).
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks affecting aquaculture operations.
- Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep knowledge of aquaculture systems, including water quality monitoring, feeding systems, and disease management.
- Experience with data management tools and aquaculture software for monitoring and reporting.
- Familiarity with environmental impact assessments and sustainability certifications.
