Role Overview
As a Junior Aquarist at [$COMPANY_NAME], you will play a vital role in maintaining aquatic environments and enhancing visitor experiences through engaging displays. Responsibilities
- Assist in the daily maintenance of aquariums and exhibits, including water quality testing, filtration, and feeding schedules
- Participate in fish health assessments and observe animal behavior to identify any health issues
- Support the design and implementation of educational programs related to aquatic ecosystems
- Help with the preparation and delivery of food for a variety of aquatic species
- Contribute to the cleaning and maintenance of tanks, displays, and surrounding areas to ensure a safe and pleasant environment for both animals and visitors
- Engage with visitors to provide informative talks and answer questions about aquatic species and conservation efforts
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Associate degree in Marine Biology, Environmental Science, or a related field
- Basic understanding of aquatic ecosystems and species
- Strong commitment to animal welfare and conservation
- Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed
Preferred:
- Experience in a public aquarium, zoo, or similar setting
- Knowledge of freshwater and marine species
- Basic diving certification is a plus
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Familiarity with aquarium maintenance equipment and water quality testing methods
- Experience using Microsoft Office Suite for reporting and data management
