Role Overview
[$COMPANY_NAME] is hiring an experienced Benefits Manager to own and scale our global benefits programs. In this strategic, cross-functional role you will design, implement and optimize total rewards components—healthcare, retirement, wellness, leave programs, and voluntary benefits—using data-driven frameworks, benefits administration platforms, and vendor ecosystems. You will partner closely with HRBP, Total Rewards, Compensation, Legal and Finance to translate business objectives into benefits strategy that improves retention, supports hiring, controls cost, and ensures regulatory compliance across jurisdictions.
Responsibilities
- Design and execute benefits strategy aligned with company objectives: workforce planning, retention, cost management and DEI goals.
- Manage day-to-day benefits operations including vendor relationships, plan configuration, enrollment processes, eligibility rules, and third-party administration (TPA) oversight.
- Lead benefits program lifecycle: build RFPs, evaluate vendors (insurance carriers, brokers, EAP, wellness, HSA/FSA administrators), negotiate contracts, and manage SLAs and KPIs.
- Implement and maintain benefits administration systems (Workday/UKG/ADP/Oracle, Benefitfocus, bswift, Rippling, Babel), ensuring data integrity, automated workflows, and secure payroll integrations.
- Develop and monitor metrics: benefits utilization, claims trends, cost-per-employee, employee satisfaction (NPS/CSAT), and ROI on wellness initiatives; present insights to senior leadership and Finance.
- Ensure compliance with multi-jurisdictional employment and benefits regulations (ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA, local statutory requirements), partnering with Legal and external counsel to mitigate risk.
- Design communication strategies and enrollment campaigns including targeted segmentation, benefits decision tools/calculators, and user-centered documentation to drive adoption and understanding.
- Lead open enrollment planning and execution, annual plan renewals, and ad-hoc program changes; manage escalations and complex case resolution.
- Coach and mentor benefits team members and cross-train HR colleagues to scale operations during growth or M&A activity.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business, Finance or related field, or equivalent experience.
- 5+ years of hands-on benefits management at a high-growth or complex multi-state/company, including direct vendor negotiation and benefits administration.
- Practical experience with benefits technology stacks (e.g., Workday, ADP, Benefitfocus, bswift, Rippling) and HRIS integrations with payroll and finance systems.
- Proven ability to analyze benefits data, build dashboards (Excel, SQL, Tableau/Looker/Power BI) and translate findings into programmatic recommendations.
- Sound knowledge of ERISA, ACA, COBRA, HIPAA, FMLA and state/local leave laws; experience working with external counsel on compliance matters.
- Excellent project management skills with experience leading cross-functional initiatives and delivering on tight timelines.
Preferred:
- Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS), SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP, PHR/SPHR, or equivalent certification.
- Experience designing global benefits programs and navigating multi-country statutory benefits.
- Experience with cost-containment strategies such as narrow networks, value-based care, reference-based pricing, or self-funded plan models.
- Prior experience at a technology company or high-growth start-up with complex equity, payroll and benefits interactions.
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Benefits administration platforms: Workday, ADP, Benefitfocus, bswift, Rippling or similar.
- HRIS and payroll integrations: API-based and flat-file processes; knowledge of SFTP workflows and SCIM provisioning is a plus.

- Vendor management and contract negotiation: RFP development, SLA/KPI tracking, and cost modeling.

- Customer-centric communicator: ability to craft clear, empathetic employee communications and training materials for diverse populations.
- Analytical and detail-oriented: rigorous approach to data validation, reconciliation and audit preparedness.
- Mentor and leader: history of developing team capabilities, running knowledge-sharing sessions, and leading change management.
