Role Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Emergency Telecommunications Dispatcher to join our dedicated team. In this critical role, you will be the first point of contact for emergency calls, playing a vital part in ensuring public safety and effective communication between callers and emergency response teams. Responsibilities
- Receive and assess emergency calls, determining the nature and urgency of the situation.
- Dispatch appropriate emergency response units, including police, fire, and medical services, while providing real-time updates and support.
- Maintain detailed records of all calls, responses, and actions taken in compliance with legal and organizational protocols.
- Utilize advanced communication and computer systems to relay information accurately and efficiently.
- Provide guidance and support to callers, offering reassurance and instructions until help arrives.
- Collaborate with law enforcement and emergency services personnel to enhance response effectiveness and community safety.
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional certifications in emergency management or telecommunications are a plus.
- Proven experience in emergency dispatch or a related field, with a strong understanding of emergency response protocols.
- Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to remain calm and focused under pressure.
- Proficiency in using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems and other relevant technologies.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays as needed.
Preferred:
- Experience in public safety communications or emergency management.
- Knowledge of local geography, emergency services, and community resources.
- Certification as a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Dispatcher (EMD) or similar credential.
