Role Overview
We are seeking an experienced and strategic Public Safety Telecommunication Manager to oversee our telecommunication systems and operations that serve critical public safety efforts. In this pivotal role, you will lead a team dedicated to ensuring seamless and reliable communication for emergency services, enhancing our capabilities to respond effectively to incidents and safeguard our communities.
Responsibilities
- Develop and implement strategic initiatives to optimize telecommunication systems for public safety response
- Manage the day-to-day operations of telecommunication services, ensuring reliability, redundancy, and compliance with industry standards
- Collaborate with local emergency services, law enforcement, and fire departments to identify communication needs and enhance inter-agency coordination
- Lead the installation, maintenance, and upgrading of telecommunication infrastructure, including radio, data, and voice systems
- Ensure effective training programs for staff on telecommunication protocols and equipment usage
- Monitor system performance metrics and implement improvements to enhance operational efficiency
- Prepare and manage the budget for telecommunication operations and projects
- Serve as the primary point of contact for stakeholders regarding telecommunication services and emergency communication systems
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- 5+ years of experience in telecommunication management, preferably in a public safety or emergency response context
- Proven expertise in managing complex communication systems and technology
- Strong understanding of public safety protocols and emergency response procedures
- Excellent project management skills with a track record of successful implementation of telecommunication projects
- Ability to analyze data and generate reports on system performance
Preferred:
- Experience with Next Generation 911 (NG911) systems and public safety network technologies
- Certification in telecommunications management or related fields
- Experience in budget development and financial management within a government or public safety setting
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Deep knowledge of telecommunication systems, including P25 radio systems, VoIP, and data networks
- Familiarity with CAD systems, GIS, and other public safety software tools
- Proficiency in data analysis and reporting tools for performance monitoring
Soft Skills and Cultural Fit
- Strong leadership skills with the ability to inspire and motivate a diverse team
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with a focus on clarity and professionalism
