Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and highly skilled Emergency Communications Dispatcher to join our team. In this critical role, you will be the vital link between the public and emergency services, ensuring timely and effective communication during emergency situations. You will utilize advanced dispatch systems and technologies to assess information rapidly, prioritize incidents, and coordinate responses from various emergency service units.
Responsibilities
- Receive and prioritize incoming emergency and non-emergency calls, ensuring accurate information is gathered from the caller
- Utilize computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems to log incidents, track unit statuses, and provide real-time updates to responders
- Communicate effectively with law enforcement, fire, and medical personnel to dispatch appropriate resources
- Monitor radio communications and relay critical information to field units in a clear and concise manner
- Maintain detailed records of calls and dispatches, ensuring compliance with legal and operational standards
- Manage multiple tasks simultaneously, including handling high-stress situations while maintaining composure
- Participate in ongoing training and development to enhance skills and stay updated with industry best practices
Required and Preferred Qualifications
Required:
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Previous experience in emergency communications or a related field preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to operate standard office equipment and computer systems, including CAD software
- Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays
Preferred:
- Certification in Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD) or completion of a formal dispatch training program
- Experience with radio communication systems and protocols
- Knowledge of local geography and emergency service resources
Technical Skills and Relevant Technologies
- Proficient in using computer-aided dispatch (CAD) systems
- Familiarity with emergency response protocols and procedures
