Zurich is currently seeking an experienced Construction Casualty Underwriter – (Senior or AVP) to join our Midwest Team in Michigan. While this position is remote, you must reside in Michigan to apply. This role will require you to be visible in the marketplace to meet with our agents and will require up to 10% travel.

As a Construction Casualty Underwriter, you will handle complex new and renewal accounts across Auto, GL, and Worker’s Compensation. As a member of Zurich's Underwriting Team, you will enjoy the opportunity to fully apply and hone your underwriting and marketing skills while building relationships with our Preferred Distribution Partners in Ohio. This role will be filled at either the Senior Underwriter OR AVP level. The hiring manager will determine the appropriate level based upon the selected applicant’s experience and skill set relative to the qualifications listed for this position.

The Construction Casualty Underwriter is responsible for:

  • Serving as a customer industry advocate with a focus on improving the customer experience by understanding their risk and offering the best end to end solution for their insurance needs.
  • Using a disciplined approach to exposure evaluation, risk assessment and pricing
  • Using risk insights, data and models to drive informed decisions at point of sale
  • Market facing and production within the growing Construction division
  • Administering and monitoring underwriting rules and guidelines, insurance laws and regulations and rating manual rules
  • Working within broad limits and authority on complex assignments

Construction Casualty Underwriter (Senior) Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 10 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 3 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 8 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    AND
  • Experience with Microsoft Office

OR

Construction Casualty Underwriter (AVP) Qualifications:

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 7 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area.
    OR
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent and 14 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 5 or more years of experience in the Underwriting or Market Facing area
    OR
  • Zurich Certified Insurance Apprentice including an Associate Degree and 12 or more years of experience in the Claims or Underwriting Support area
    AND
  • Experience with Microsoft Office

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree 
  • Technical knowledge of Construction Casualty Underwriting
  • Established broker relationships (retail brokers) in Ohio
  • Sales execution mindset
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

At Zurich, compensation for roles is influenced by a variety of factors, including but not limited to the specific office location, role, skill set, and level of experience. In compliance with local laws, Zurich commits to providing a fair and reasonable compensation range for each role. For more information about our Total Rewards, please click here. Additional rewards may encompass short-term incentive bonuses and merit increases. We encourage candidates with salary expectations beyond the provided range to apply as they will be considered based on their experience, skills, and education. The compensation indicated represents a nationwide market range and has not been adjusted for geographic differentials pertaining to the location where the position may be filled. The combined salary range for this position is $120,000.00- $222,000.00. The proposed salary range for the Senior is $120,000.00 - $170,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 15%. For the AVP is $172,000.00- $222,000.00, with short-term incentive bonus eligibility set at 20%.
