About Yubico
What began in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2007, with a simple mission to make secure login easy and available for everyone, has evolved into a global standard for phishing-resistant multi-factor authentication. Yubico, founded by Stina Ehrensvärd and Jakob Ehrensvärd, introduced the YubiKey 1.0, the world's first one-touch, one-time password authenticator that required no client or driver, identifying itself as a keyboard. This innovative approach aimed to enable a single authentication key to work across numerous services.
The journey continued with early innovations, including a Swedish government innovation grant for developing the YubiKey NEO, which incorporated NFC and new ideas for using ECC public key cryptography for authentication at scale. The OATH one-time password standard was also added as a new feature. A significant step in Yubico's evolution was the Ehrensvärds' move to Silicon Valley. This strategic relocation was driven by the goal to collaborate closely with internet thought leaders to further develop the YubiKey technology into a global standard. Over the years, Yubico has been a leader in setting global standards for secure access to computers, mobile devices, servers, browsers, and internet accounts. The company is a creator and core contributor to the FIDO2, WebAuthn, and FIDO Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) open authentication standards. Yubico has pioneered the delivery of modern, hardware-based passkey authentication security at scale to customers in over 160 countries. Their solutions enable passwordless logins using the most secure form of passkey technology, with YubiKeys working out-of-the-box across hundreds of consumer and enterprise applications and services. Aligned with its mission of making the internet more secure for everyone, Yubico also established the philanthropic initiative, Secure it Forward, donating YubiKeys to organizations helping at-risk individuals. Today, Yubico has headquarters in Stockholm and Santa Clara, CA, with manufacturing plants in both Sweden and the US, and is listed on Nasdaq Stockholm.
