About UFG

View company profile

The story of UFG Insurance began in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on a winter day in 1946. It was then that Scott McIntyre Sr., a man with a vision for a different kind of insurance company, founded United Casualty Company. Starting with a focus on auto and liability lines, the company quickly established a reputation for doing business the right way—treating people with respect and delivering on promises. By 1950, the company had expanded its offerings and added 'Fire' to its name, becoming United Fire & Casualty Company, a moniker that would become synonymous with financial strength and stability in the region.

Over the ensuing decades, UFG embarked on a journey of steady and strategic growth. From its humble beginnings as a regional insurer, the company expanded its footprint across the United States, evolving into a publicly traded enterprise on the Nasdaq stock exchange under the ticker symbol UFCS. Today, UFG Insurance is a multibillion-dollar carrier with a national presence, offering a comprehensive suite of commercial insurance, surety bonds, and excess and surplus lines. Despite its significant expansion, the company remains true to the values instilled by its founder, fostering a people-centered culture that prioritizes the success of its employees, agents, and policyholders.
