TE - 04 - DevOps Engineer based in Nairobi, Kenya (Partime)

As a DevOps Consultant , you will design, deploy, and maintain cloud infrastructure and CI/CD workflows across multiple environments supporting both our client’s legacy platform and new AI-driven products.

You will work within the Technology team to improve system reliability, observability, security, and scalability, and work closely with colleagues to ensure smooth deployments and consistent uptime.

Requirements

Key Responsibilities

• Infrastructure, Cloud Management

2. CI/CD, Automation

• Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines for our apps, APIs, and AI workflows
• Automate testing, deployment, and rollback workflows
• Establish pipelines supporting multi-service architecture

3. Reliability, Monitoring, Observability

● Set up and manage monitoring tools

• Build robust alerting systems and incident response processes
• Conduct load testing and performance optimization
• Improve logging and debugging workflows for engineering and data operations

teams

4. Security, Compliance

• Implement security best practices for data encryption, secrets management, and

role-based access

• Support compliance with data protection policies, and partner-specific

requirements

• Conduct vulnerability assessments and harden infrastructure

5. Deployment Support, Technical Operations

• Collaborate on scaling Ushahidi deployments with voice, text, and AI pipelines
• Set up automated backups, failover strategies, and disaster recovery processes
• Work closely with backend and frontend teams to ensure architectural consistency
• Support code reviews related to infrastructure or DevOps patterns
• Document infrastructure, operational standards, and runbooks

Required Skills & Experience

• 4+ years experience in DevOps, Site Reliability Engineering, or Cloud Infrastructure
• Strong experience with AWS, Kubernetes and Linux
• Experience designing scalable microservice and API-based architectures

● Proficiency with CI/CD tools

• Experience with monitoring/logging tools
• Familiarity with security hardening, DevSecOps approaches, and secrets management
• Previous work with data pipelines, AI/ML workflows, or distributed systems is an

advantage

• Experience supporting globally distributed teams

Preferred (Nice-to-Have)

• Experience deploying applications in low-connectivity contexts
• Knowledge of Python AI/ML pipeline operations
• Background contributing to open-source platforms
• Familiarity with humanitarian, civic tech, or governance-oriented systems
