Engineering Manager

Meet Teya, an all-in-one solution for small and growing businesses.

Teya

Employee count: 1001-5000

Portugal only

Hello! We're Teya.

Teya is a payment and software service provider, headquartered in London serving small, local businesses across Europe. Founded in 2019, we build easy to use, integrated tools that enable our members to accept payments and boost business performance.

At Teya we believe small, local businesses are the lifeblood of our communities.

We’re here because we don’t believe there’s a level playing field that gives small businesses with a fighting chance against the giants of the high street.

We’re here because we see banks and legacy service providers making things harder for them. We don’t think the best technology or the best service should be reserved for those with the biggest headquarters.

We’re here to fight for a future where small, local businesses can thrive, and to commit the same dedication they offer all of us.

Become a part of our story.

We’re looking for exceptional talent to join our mission. We offer a chance to create impact in a high-energy and connected culture, while benefiting from continuous learning opportunities, a supportive community which is proud to serve our mission, and comprehensive benefits.

Your Mission

As an Engineering Manager at Teya, you will lead a team with deep Fintech expertise to shape the future of our Product Shared Services domain. You will guide engineering teams through the full development lifecycle, delivering scalable and secure solutions that enhance the business operations of our customers. Your work will directly influence the customer experience, ensuring our products are intuitive, reliable, and impactful.

This role blends strategic planning with hands-on leadership. You will champion quality coding practices, maintainable software design, and foster a culture of continuous improvement. We are looking for someone who is not only technically strong but also deeply curious, forward thinking, and passionate about driving growth—both personally and for Teya. A strong understanding of digital payment processes and a vision for what is next will be key to success in helping shape the direction of our engineering efforts.

On a regular day as an Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Collaborate with peers across Teya to deliver world-class services for small business owners in Europe

  • Focus on Quality of Delivery to ensure team velocity and performance

  • Monitor metrics to ensure that service level objectives and error budgets are under control

  • Own the definition, prioritization, evolution, and delivery of development projects, contributing to roadmap planning and execution

  • Lead the design of efficient, scalable, high-throughput, and reliable cloud-based software systems

  • Participate in recruitment processes, including planning future team needs, conducting interviews, and shaping onboarding experiences

  • Work closely with stakeholders across engineering, product, project, and sales teams

Your Story

  • 1 - 3 years leading development teams, managing the full lifecycle of key features, including planning, delivery, and ongoing maintenance.

  • 5+ years of past experience as a software engineer, preferably on a object-oriented language with clear understanding of reliability engineering

  • Professional experience leading design or architecture (design patterns, reliability, scaling) of multiple new and existing systems.

  • Proven ability to document and communicate technical decisions to a diverse audience.

  • Ability to solve problems in code using data structures and algorithms and be able to analyze the time and space complexity of those solutions.

Ideal candidates will have worked with Agile methodologies (Scrum, Kanban, Scrumban, etc.) Who have worked with high performance backend services written in Java family class of languages (Java, Kotlin, Scala, etc.) and are focused on resilience and performance.

The Perks

  • We trust you, so we offer flexible working hours, as long it suits both you and your team;

  • Health Insurance;

  • Meal Allowance;

  • 25 days of Annual leave (+ Bank holidays);

  • Public Transportation Card;

  • Frequent team events & activities in the office and outside;

Teya is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.

We are committed to creating an inclusive environment where everyone regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, religion, or background can thrive and do their best work. We believe that a diverse team leads to better ideas, stronger outcomes, and a more supportive workplace for all.

If you require any reasonable adjustments at any stage of the recruitment process whether for interviews, assessments, or other parts of the application—we encourage you to let us know. We are committed to ensuring that every candidate has a fair and accessible experience with us.
