About Techpacker
Techpacker emerged from a shared vision between Josie Tam and Saral Kochar, who met at a technology event in 2013. Recognizing a gap in the market for a streamlined solution to connect fashion designers with manufacturers, they founded Techpacker in September of that year. Kochar, a London College of Fashion graduate, brought his industry insight, while Tam contributed her expertise in fashion technology solutions. Initially, the company aimed to simplify the creation of "tech packs" – the detailed blueprints essential for garment production – which were often a source of miscommunication between designers and factories. The platform was designed to be a more accessible and affordable alternative to complex and expensive Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems, particularly for small to medium-sized brands and independent designers.
The company launched its app, initially free, with the goal of enabling designers to clearly communicate their specifications to manufacturers, thereby reducing product development times. Early on, Techpacker received a grant of 333,000 Hong Kong dollars from the Hong Kong government, which supported its initial growth and the establishment of offices in both Hong Kong and New York. By 2015, Techpacker had already garnered 500 customers. The platform's innovative approach was recognized in 2016 when Gartner named Techpacker a "Cool Vendor" in Product Design and Life Cycle Management. Over the years, Techpacker has continued to evolve, focusing on building a community of designers and offering tools that visualize the supply chain, accelerate production, and improve quality control. It has attracted over 15,000 fashion companies and has been used to manage hundreds of thousands of styles, including by designers from major brands and renowned lifestyle shops like Kapok. Techpacker's core mission remains to provide an intuitive, cloud-based platform that streamlines the creation, management, and sharing of tech packs, ultimately helping fashion brands bring their visions to life more efficiently and accurately.
