Starry, Inc. is a Boston-based company founded in 2014 by Chaitanya 'Chet' Kanojia and Alex Moulle-Berteaux, among others, with a mission to revolutionize internet access. The company publicly launched in January 2016, aiming to provide high-speed, reliable, and affordable broadband internet service. Starry differentiates itself by deploying an innovative wideband hybrid-fiber fixed wireless technology, utilizing millimeter wave spectrum (including 24 GHz and 37 GHz bands) to deliver gigabit-capable connectivity to homes and businesses. This approach is designed to bypass the limitations and high costs associated with traditional cable and fiber-to-the-home deployments, offering consumers an alternative without long-term contracts, data caps, or hidden fees. The company developed its entire technology stack in-house, including its base stations ('Starry Beam'), customer premise equipment ('Starry Point,' 'Starry Trident,' 'Starry Comet'), and in-home WiFi hubs ('Starry Station').

Starry has focused on serving metropolitan areas, including Boston, New York City, Los Angeles, Denver, and Washington, D.C. The company has emphasized customer experience, digital equity through its Starry Connect program for affordable housing communities, and a commitment to an open and neutral internet. In early 2022, Starry became a publicly listed company. However, facing financial challenges, the company filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in February 2023. It successfully emerged from bankruptcy in August 2023 as a private entity after a restructuring process that reduced debt and refocused its operations on core markets. Alex Moulle-Berteaux, a co-founder, was appointed CEO in June 2023, succeeding Chet Kanojia, who remains on the board. Post-restructuring, Starry continues its mission to provide competitive internet service and expand its reach within its targeted urban environments, emphasizing operational efficiency and a path to profitability while maintaining its customer-first approach.
