Our mission is to become the de facto way people learn foreign languages. We begin by teaching the next billion people English and Spanish.
English is the global language of business, culture, and communication, and over 1.5 billion people around the world are actively trying to learn right now. Others dream of communicating with the half-billion native Spanish speakers across the globe. The problem is that it's nearly impossible to learn to speak a language without constant access to a speaking partner. Grammar and vocab apps don't really help – you need to actually converse with someone.
Speak is on a journey to fix this. We're creating an AI-powered experience that replicates the flow of a conversation, without needing a human on the other end. The goal is to make it radically more accessible to be able to have conversations in a foreign language and eventually help hundreds of millions of people gain fluency who otherwise wouldn't be able to.
We started on this journey over five years ago and we've still got a long ways to go. We're thoughtfully adding new team members only when we think they can truly play a big role in our mission.
Speak launched first in South Korea where we have quickly grown to become the top grossing education app in the country. We have now delivered this winning product to more than 30 countries globally and are continuing to expand to more markets in the coming months. The company is well funded, raising a recent Series B backed by investors like OpenAI, Founders Fund, Y Combinator, Khosla Ventures, Lachy Groom, Josh Buckley, and others. We’re a team of 60 based primarily in SF, Seoul, Tokyo, and Ljubljana.
About this role
Join the Content team at Speak as a Video Designer and be a part of our dynamic post-production function. In this role, you will be responsible for producing a variety of engaging video content for the Speak’s users.
This position is on a contract basis, with a negotiable contract period of up to 12 months. After the contract period, there will be an opportunity to transition into a full-time employee.

What you’ll be doing
Produce learning videos in different languages for the Speak app, ensuring high video and audio quality as well as on-time delivery
Create video prototypes tailored to different teaching styles
Offer suggestions for enhancing audio and visual aspects in line with Speak's branding and educational objectives
Collaborate with content writers, studio manager, and production lead on video content creation
Manage projects and work with freelance editors collaboratively
Stay informed about the product and content to drive ongoing post-production enhancements
What we’re looking for
Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (Premiere Pro, After Effects, Illustrator, Photoshop)
Passion for creating learning videos to support language learners globally
Excellent design skills, including subtitles and graphics
Effective communication and language skills
Proficiency in Korean as you will supervise and collaborate with Korean freelance editors
Ability to communicate in English or willingness to learn English
Communication with global offices in the US, Japan, and Ljubljana will be in English. While fluency is not mandatory, a willingness to learn and engage with the team in English is beneficial for collaboration.
Ability to take ownership of work in a startup environment
Excellent time management abilities and capable of completing tasks by the assigned deadline

Experience creating educational videos
Experience leading or participating in large-scale production projects
Experience leading or participating in vertical video production
Ablity to think creatively and turn ideas into reality
Proficiency in a second language (Korean, Spanish, Japanese, Chinese, French, etc.)
