About our group:

Seagate’s Legal Team is a collaborative and collegial group that strives to deliver excellent customer service and practical business advice while mitigating risk and protecting our company and our employees. The person who takes on this internship will have the opportunity to work on exciting and challenging legal issues that require creative and proactive legal advice and client service. You will be part of a collaborative group that works across all functions and levels in the company. You will report to an Ireland based Assistant General Counsel.

The Seagate legal group (Seagate Legal Group) is seeking a currently enrolled law student for a 12-week summer internship preferably located at one of our US sites in Fremont, CA, Longmont CO, Normandale MN, Shakopee MN facilities. Also open to fully remote candidates. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work for a well-known, highly regarded global organization, gain practical legal experience working alongside highly skilled and qualified lawyers, in a variety of legal areas, and develop skills that will set them far above their peers.

About the role - you will:

  • Be exposed to a wide range of legal disciplines by assisting with various corporate and compliance-related projects, with primary focus being on compliance and ethics, data privacy and related contract (as required). 
  • Assist members of the various legal departments with other projects, as required, in our Contracts, IP, Employment, Corporate Governance and Litigation Groups. 
  • Conduct legal research, draft memoranda and present conclusions on questions presented by attorneys, including identifying and researching specific areas of current and emerging legislation that may directly impact Seagate and present findings to the wider Seagate Legal Group.
  • Assist in the analysis of new business products, services, strategies, and initiatives.
  • Identify and research specific areas of current and emerging legislation that may directly impact Seagate and present findings to the wider Seagate Legal Group. 
  • Develop positive working relationships with internal business stakeholders and wider Seagate Legal group.
  • Embed Seagate’s core values of Integrity, Innovation and Inclusion in all work undertaken as part of the internship.

About you:

  • Organized and hard-working, willingness to learn, detail-oriented, with the ability to work in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Interest in technology and in-house legal work.
  • Capacity to work independently, as well as part of a team
  • Good interpersonal skills, enthusiastic, with a sense of humor.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively, write clearly and concisely, and manage tasks to deadline.

Your experience includes:

  • Possess a basic knowledge and understanding of legal documents.
  • Current first or second year student in a Juris Doctor (JD) program, and planning to return to classes in Fall 2024.

The estimated base salary range for this position: $25.50 -$32.00. Actual salary range is based on the regional labor market of the role in the geography in which the position is located based on the requirements of the job and your skills. This posted salary range is a good faith and reasonable estimate, and Seagate reserves the right to adjust this range depending on the qualifications of the selected candidate.
