Scholars Strategy Network

We are a nationwide organization of university-based scholars who are dedicated to improving public policy and strengthening democracy in the United States. Founded in 2011 by Theda Skocpol, a distinguished professor at Harvard University, our network has grown to include over 2,000 researchers from 47 states. Our members are committed to ensuring that research and evidence play a crucial role in shaping policy decisions at all levels of government, from local city halls to the halls of Congress in Washington D.C. We believe that for our democracy to thrive, it is essential that policymakers, journalists, and civic leaders have access to credible, evidence-based insights from the academic community. Our work is centered on building strong, lasting relationships between our scholars and those in positions to influence public life.

To achieve our mission, we focus on several key areas of activity. We provide extensive training to our members on how to effectively communicate their research to non-academic audiences, emphasizing the importance of clarity and conciseness over academic jargon. We organize our scholars into local chapters and working groups that focus on specific policy issues, fostering a collaborative environment where they can share their expertise and work together to address pressing public challenges. Through our network, we help scholars connect with policymakers to provide expert testimony, share research briefs, and offer consultations. We also work to amplify the voices of our scholars in the media by helping them place op-eds, connect with journalists, and participate in public discussions. We are a community of engaged academics who are passionate about using our knowledge to make a positive impact on society and to ensure that policy is informed by the best available evidence.
