About the role:

Samsara is looking for experienced Senior Software Engineers to be part of our Core Platform team. The team is responsible for the core enterprise capabilities that power Samsara’s Connected Operations platform. This includes our Reporting, Alerting, Org/User management, Release management, Monetization capabilities to support our rapidly growing footprint of customers. This organization is building the foundation to stay ahead of the needs of our expanding customer base and platform.

As a Software Engineer at Samsara, you will design and develop features across a broad surface area with a tangible impact on active and future customers. You’ll tackle engineering challenges ranging from architecting data structures for mass data collection to presenting data analytics in intuitive and performant ways on web and mobile. Our Telematics team takes real-time signals from our IoT devices deployed in vehicles (think: GPS, Engine RPM, Fuel Levels and hundreds more) and processes them to help our customers make their vehicle fleets safer, greener, and more efficient.

We use Golang for our backend, Typescript and React for our web client, GraphQL to fetch data from our backend, and React Native for our mobile app. Direct experience with these technologies is not required.

In this role, you will:

• Design an extensible, highly-available system used by Samsara customers
• Implement backend features that provide new and delightful customer experience
• Identify opportunities and develop strategies to influence further improvements and continued operational excellence of our systems
• Work closely with engineering and product leadership to understand both the technical and functional requirements of complex software systems
• Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices

Minimum requirements for the role:

• 4+ years of industry experience in software development
• Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science/Engineering or equivalent experience
• Strong programming/coding and design fundamentals
• Experience in building and deploying software to cloud providers such as AWS, GCP or Azure

An ideal candidate also has:

• Experience with the Go, JavaScript, TypeScript, or similar programming languages
• Experience in developing, deploying and maintaining distributed, highly scalable software
• Demonstrated ability to help develop the technical mastery of our newer engineering team members
• A desire to solve complex problems and continuously improve our systems as new, exciting use cases present themselves
