Not RequiredCollins Aerospace is seeking a Principal Technial Project Engineer to join our Product Integrity Department and support the Military Avionics Systems Reliability, Maintainability, and Safety (RMS) Engineering teams to provide project management of our Safety Critical Avionics Products and Systems primarily based in Cedar Rapids, IA. The candidate must be adaptable to change, determined to accomplish tasks based on program schedule, collaborate with teammates to make the best decisions, enjoy learning new technologies, be self-motivated and contribute to a positive work environment. Our charter is to promote the safe and reliable aspects of our designs by providing engineers that are specially trained and knowledgeable in RMS methods and processes. The position is based in Cedar Rapids, Iowa but working remotely elsewhere in the US is an option for the ideal candidate.
What You Will Do:
- Liaises between project management and planning; engineering design teams and our RMS project teams as well as with line management providing timely and effective communication
- Leads a wide range of entry-level to highly experienced engineers
- Responsible for managing the technical performance of multiple programs concurrently, each with a small number of RMS engineers (3-5)
- Prepares and maintains project plans, budgets, and staffing requirements to ensure that all action item lists are completed, and project quality expectations are met.
- Understand customer Statement of Work and Contract Requirements relating to RMS and translate them into the Engineering bid, and/or execution activities.
- Manage assigned project including tracking & reporting on budget and schedule performance through Earned Value Management Systems (EVMS) techniques.
- Ensure excellence in engineering and technology
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience.
- U.S. Person required – Military contract stipulates the candidates must be U.S. Persons.
- Experience with preparing and presenting technical information to peers, customers, and higher levels of management.
- Experience driving project schedules to keep programs running efficiently and tracks budget and schedule commitments
- Aerospace industry experience is required.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Familiarity of Civil or Military Certification and Compliance in accordance with ARP4761 or military safety assessments in accordance with MIL-STD-882E System Safety
- Basic knowledge of ARP4754A, DO-254, DO-178B/C, DO-297 or in reliability engineering theory
- Progressive leadership in the design, development, test, or integration of safety critical avionics with embedded software or electronic systems
- Experience using Agile methodologies for hardware and software development
- Experience navigating competing priorities, delivering the highest level of engagement and delivering successful outcomes in critical situations
- Experience leading projects and teams within a highly matrixed organization
- Strong Project management skills using MS Office/MS Project/EVMS
- Identification of risks early on and ability to manage/mitigate by leveraging Sr. Leadership Support.
- Experience with CAFTA or similar Fault Tree analysis tools
- Working in AGILE SAFe team environment, SAFE Agile or PMI PMP certified

The salary range for this role is 107,500 USD - 204,500 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels.
