Regnskogfondet

In 1989, a desperate plea from the Amazon echoed across the world. The Kayapó people of Brazil, facing the destruction of their ancestral lands, reached out for help. This call to action sparked the creation of the Rainforest Foundation by Sting and Trudie Styler. That same year, in a show of international solidarity, the Norwegian branch—Regnskogfondet—was established. What began as a targeted effort to support one indigenous group has since blossomed into a global force for conservation and human rights.

From its humble beginnings, Regnskogfondet has grown into one of Europe's leading organizations dedicated to rainforest protection. The organization's philosophy is rooted in a simple yet powerful truth: the most effective guardians of the rainforest are the people who have lived there for generations. By empowering Indigenous peoples and local communities with legal rights and resources, Regnskogfondet tackles the root causes of deforestation.

Over the decades, the organization has expanded its reach far beyond the Amazon. Today, it operates across the three major rainforest basins: South America, Central Africa, and Southeast Asia. Working alongside a network of over 60 local partners, Regnskogfondet fights against illegal logging, mining, and large-scale agriculture that threatens these vital ecosystems.

Headquartered in Oslo, the organization also plays a crucial role on the international stage.
