At RecargaPay, we’re on a mission to deliver the best payment experience for Brazilian consumers and small businesses — by building a powerful digital ecosystem where the banked and unbanked connect, and where consumers and merchants have a one-stop shop for all their financial needs.

We serve over 10 million users and process more than USD 4 billion annually. We’ve been profitable since 2022 and operate our own credit business. We are an AI-first, 100% remote team, scaling in the rapidly changing Brazilian financial market.

Our goal? Deliver the best payment experience in Brazil for people and small businesses alike.

We value autonomy, ownership, and a bias for action. We’re looking for people who are curious, hands-on, and driven by impact — who want to solve real problems, work with strong teams, and rethink what’s possible.

If you’re ready to do your best work, at scale, with purpose — this is your place.

We are seeking a skilled Engineering Manager in the Fraud team who thrives in a dynamic environment and is passionate about leveraging technology to combat fraudulent activities. In this leadership role, you will drive the technical vision and oversee a talented group of engineers dedicated to building sophisticated fraud detection systems.

Your main responsibility will be leading the development and deployment of algorithms that identify potentially fraudulent behavior, balancing security with user experience. You will foster a culture of collaboration and innovation while ensuring that the engineering team has the tools and mentorship they need to succeed.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Manage and lead multiple engineering teams, setting clear objectives and ensuring alignment with company goals.
    • Play a key role in hiring, training, and developing engineering talent, fostering a growth-oriented and supportive environment.
    • Establish a culture of technical excellence, accountability, and innovation.
    • Drive performance management, ensuring continuous learning, coaching, and career progression for team members.
    • Guide conversations to remove blockers and foster collaboration within the team.
    • Define clear KPIs and OKRs to measure team effectiveness and delivery success.
    • Make proactive adjustments to team capacity and delivery timelines as needed.
    • Accompany the different stakeholders in planning and organizing priorities.
    • Ensure teams deliver projects on time, meeting quality and scalability standards.
    • Manage engineering budgets, tooling investments, and infrastructure costs to maximize efficiency.
    • Clearly communicate the technical vision to engineering teams, ensuring alignment and commitment to delivery.
    • Collaborate with Product, Design, and Business stakeholders to ensure strategic alignment.
    • Act as a bridge between business, product and technology, translating technical insights into business impact.
    • Foster a culture of open communication, knowledge sharing, and cross-team collaboration.
    • Ensure clarity in system design, advocating for scalable, maintainable, and resilient architectures.
    • Guide teams in making high-impact architectural decisions, balancing tradeoffs between scalability, security, and performance.
    • Oversee technical roadmaps, ensuring alignment with business goals and longterm system evolution.
    • Encourage best practices in software engineering, including code reviews, CI/CD automation, observability, and performance optimization.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define and refine technical requirements.
    • Promote the adoption of AI-assisted engineering practices within your squad and chapter, leveraging tools for code generation, automated refactoring, test case creation, and technical documentation. Identify opportunities where AI can enhance developer productivity, code quality, and team velocity.

Requirements

  • Academic background oriented toward computer science, engineering, or software development disciplines.
  • Proven track record of leading teams and working in product-driven companies.
  • Hands-on experience in backend (Java, Spring Boot, Kafka, PostgreSQL, AWS) and optionally frontend development, with a track record of delivering scalable systems.
  • Background optimizing engineering processes using agile methodologies, DevOps principles, and continuous delivery pipelines.
  • Experience working in medium to high complexity domains, with strong understanding of web and mobile application architecture, security, and best practices.

  • Strong understanding of software architecture and distributed systems, with experience guiding decisions around scalability, security, and maintainability.
  • Familiarity with AI-assisted development tools (e.g., code generation, test automation, documentation support).
  • Proven ability to manage engineering budgets, infrastructure resources, and tooling investments.
  • Track record of hiring, coaching, and developing engineering talent, including mentoring technical leads and fostering team growth.
  • Success in managing managers and building layered leadership structures is a plus.

At RecargaPay, the mission is to democratize mobile payments and financial services for everyone in Brazil. The company was born from a simple idea: to make financial transactions easier and more accessible. This journey began in 2010, starting with a platform to recharge mobile phone credits online, a service that addressed a significant pain point for millions of Brazilians who previously had to visit physical stores for a digital product. This initial focus on solving a real-world problem laid the foundation for a culture of innovation and customer-centricity that continues to drive the company forward. The evolution from a simple recharge service to a comprehensive 'super app' reflects a deep commitment to financial inclusion, catering to both the banked and the unbanked with a suite of services designed for convenience and security.

The heart of RecargaPay's culture is a relentless drive to 'rethink the obvious' and generate impactful solutions. The team operates with a collaborative and transparent spirit, where the best ideas win, regardless of who they come from. This is a 100% remote-first company, fostering a flexible environment where employees across Brazil and the world can thrive. The belief is that by empowering the team with autonomy and the right tools, they can achieve more with less, focusing on tasks that deliver significant results. This ethos is woven into the fabric of the company, from its product development, which now includes bill payments, P2P transfers, transportation card reloads, and even micro-loans, to its internal operations. RecargaPay is more than just a fintech company; it's a team of passionate individuals dedicated to building a scalable and efficient platform that makes a tangible difference in the daily lives of its users, simplifying finances and empowering them with greater control over their money.
