Founded in 1956 by Dale Swanson in Spokane, Washington, USA, the company initially focused on using fibreglass fabric technology to create filters for molten aluminium. In 1968, Allan Roy joined the company, then known as Fibrous Glass Products, and became a partner. The company was renamed Pyrotek in 1976. Allan Roy was named President in 1995, CEO in 1998, and became the sole owner in 2003.

Pyrotek has since expanded its offerings and global presence significantly. The company now operates in over 35 countries with more than 80 locations, employing over 3,000 people.
