What is Pathrise?

Pathrise (YC W18) connects job seekers across North America to world class industry mentorship and career coaching to help them land a new career. The program is free upfront and our customers pay us back when they’re hired.
Built around aligned incentives, we help build equity in the job search process by providing 1-on-1 mentorship, training, and a platform to uplift job seekers and ultimately, help them fulfill their hopes, ambitions, and livelihoods. We’ve already helped more than a thousand fellows land meaningful jobs, and helped them earn over $100M in salary.
In 2022 we raised our Series B and there is even more exciting growth on the horizon. That year we expanded from 6 to 14 industries, launched a tiered pricing system with differentiated product offerings, and much more.
Our Mission 🚀
Our mission is to help people everywhere build their careers by being the world’s best career agency.
We believe the job search system is broken and can be fixed with a business model that acts on behalf of the job seeker, instead of on behalf of employers, recruiters, or schools. If this sounds interesting to you, we look forward to hearing from you!

The Role

In addition to fostering career growth for individuals, Pathrise has had 3x YoY growth with an 98% placement rate and with expanding tracks in various industries. With over 2,000 fellows placed everywhere from Facebook to Google, Microsoft, Amazon, Uber and startups, we are looking to expand our team in the PSO track (Product, Strategy Operations).
As a part time PSO mentor, you will be responsible for fellow success by helping them develop their technical interviewing skills through a variety of online sessions. You will work cross-functionally with our career and PSO mentors to provide up-to-date, relevant information to help our fellows not only pass interviews but gain confidence in their abilities!
Note: we hire for part-time industry mentors and specialists on a rolling basis contingent on need, which fluctuates. We encourage you to apply and if your experience is a match, a member of our team will reach out when a spot opens up, which happens often.

  • Guide fellows through both technical and behavioral aspects of the job search, such as reviewing resumes, conducting mock behavioral interviews, assisting on written assignments, prepping fellows for case studies/presentations, and creating skills plans.
  • Facilitate a thoughtful and inclusive environment for all fellows to learn and grow in their technical skills to achieve great results and land the job of their dreams!
  • Help to create Strategy Operations workshops on a range of relevant industry topics

💡The Pathrise Approach to Hiring

At Pathrise we have a unique understanding of the hiring process from the perspective of companies and candidates, and the ups and downs that come with it. Candidates are close to our hearts - we've been them, we coach them, we know them.
Our general full-time hiring process outlined below. Note: this doesn't apply to part-time roles which consist of an intro call + a 30-45 min final interview.

Application Stage

- Our recruiting team reviews applications and responds to qualified applicants as quickly as possible.
- Our ATS does not auto-reject in any way
- Note that some part-time roles are listed in "Inactive - Resume Pool" status, meaning hiring happens on a rolling basis and may open unexpectedly.

Intro Call

- In this 30 minute phone call, we aim to align on the role and answer your questions to ensure a mutual fit
- Taking the next step in your career is a big deal! Ask whatever questions you need to ensure we're the right fit for you.
- Candidates who advance will be provided with a helpful guide to support their candidate experience.

Skill Assessment or Hiring Manager Interview

- For some roles, this is a 30 minute Google Meet interview with a hiring manager.
- For other roles, this stage is a hands-on skill assessment that gives you a firsthand glimpse of what basic skills are needed to execute in this role, and how they'll be applied. It also gives us early signals on the more technical aspects of candidate fit.

Virtual Onsite (full-time roles only)

- Candidates will meet with hiring managers and collaborators for further skill assessments and behavioral interviews.
- Because this stage can take considerable time for all candidates and interviewers (1.5 - 3 hours), we are very intentional about how we conduct it and who we move forward. We do our best to be mindful of time commitments and candidate efforts, and will communicate if things change unexpectedly.
- You'll receive guidance well in advance.

Reference Interviews (full-time roles only)

- We'll ask for some professional references to follow up with.

Pathrise is an online program for tech professionals that provides 1-on-1 mentorship, training and advice to help you land your next job. On top of that, we're built around aligned incentives. You only pay if you succeed in getting hired and start work at a job first.

Focusing on impact

After years of offering career advice to tech professionals, we realized how hard it was to advance in your career alone. Career services today just aren't effective, especially compared to the cost of our education and the effort we invest in our work. We decided to change that — so we started Pathrise.

OUR MANIFESTO

We seek to uplift job seekers in their careers and help them fulfill their hopes, ambitions and livelihoods. Here are ten beliefs that drive us to do what we do.

Your next job matters.

You shouldn't settle for less than you're capable of, because your next job can accelerate or hold back your career more than you think. Everything from rate of promotion to how much money you'll make increases or decreases exponentially depending on how and where you go next.

Everyone should have a chance, no matter which school they attended, what area they're from or how much money they have.

Incredible people come from everywhere. Given the opportunity and some guidance, we believe people can do amazing things. A service that helps people unlock their true potential should be accessible to everyone in price and availability.

Advancing your career shouldn't be a chicken and egg problem.

We believe that past work, not credentials, prepare people for the real world. We help people frame their work in the right way to advance their career rather than get pigeonholed in where they were before.

Applying alone rarely ever works. Networking is essential.

Regardless of who you are or who you know, we believe that networks can be built from scratch. Learning how to do this and how networking can help propel your career shouldn't be regarded as rocket science. It should be and can be consistently taught and encouraged.

The interview process is a winnable game.

People aren't naturally gifted at interviewing well. This is a skill that needs to be learned and practiced because it's the first impression you give someone. It even leads to better communication in the workplace. While it might not be an exact science, there are plenty of well-defined patterns that can 10x your chances of crushing an interview.

Effective career services must be both deeply personal and powered by technology.

Using technology, career services can be personalized on a 1:1 scale yet also be equally effective for an entire student population. By learning from collective data, launching your career can become data-driven rather than an unsolvable mystery.

Anxiety is an inevitable part of the job seeking process. Career services should address that anxiety and help you build confidence.

It can be terrifying, confusing and lonely to figure out what you want to do, how to do it and where to start. Career services today don't address any of the anxiety that comes as a part of the job seeking process, but it should be one of their top priorities.

Career services actually work when everyone involved has aligned incentives.

Going to college, getting into debt and still being unhappy with your career isn't a plan for success, yet it's today's harsh reality. It's nearly impossible for a counselor to help hundreds or thousands of university students at a time and still be effective, but what if career services were actually goaled on the success of their students?

When everyone pays it forward, the entire community wins.

When mentees become mentors, a positive loop occurs again and again, helping the next generation of job seekers and the generation after them. Our fellows pay it forward and become mentors for other aspiring tech professionals after they've succeeded.

There's more to your life than your career.

Today, we're told to work so hard that sometimes we ignore life, family and friends. Though Pathrise is all about your career, we still believe that it's equally as important for your career to be in sync with your life goals; a happy balance of everything you value.
