The Azure Engineer is responsible for optimizing, maintaining, and supporting a complex cloud infrastructure that includes both Azure native services and Azure VMware Solution (AVS). This role focuses on improving performance, reliability, cost efficiency, and security while delivering a top-tier support experience for mission-critical systems. The Azure Engineer works closely with infrastructure, application, and security teams to ensure the cloud environment is resilient, scalable, and aligned with organizational goals.
Key Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure Optimization
Evaluate and optimize existing Azure infrastructure for performance, availability, scalability, and cost efficiency
Analyze resource utilization and recommend right-sizing, architectural improvements, and modernization opportunities
Implement and manage monitoring, alerting, and performance tuning across Azure and AVS environments
Support capacity planning and lifecycle management of cloud resources
Azure & Azure VMware Solution (AVS) Operations
Administer and support Azure native services including virtual machines, networking, storage, identity, and security components
Support Azure VMware Solution environments, including integration with Azure networking, storage, and backup solutions
Collaborate with VMware and Azure teams to troubleshoot complex hybrid cloud issues
Ensure seamless connectivity and interoperability between Azure native workloads and AVS-hosted virtual machines
Support & Reliability
Provide advanced, top-tier support for cloud infrastructure incidents and service requests
Act as an escalation point for complex infrastructure issues requiring deep Azure and VMware expertise
Participate in root cause analysis, problem management, and post-incident reviews
Develop and maintain operational documentation, standards, and runbooks
Security, Governance & Compliance
Implement and maintain Azure security best practices, including identity, access control, and network security
Support governance initiatives using Azure Policy, RBAC, and cost management tools
Partner with security teams to address vulnerabilities, patching, and compliance requirements
Automation & Continuous Improvement
Automate infrastructure provisioning and management using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) tools
Improve operational efficiency through scripting and automation
Stay current on Azure and VMware platform updates and recommend adoption of new features when appropriate
Required Qualifications
Bachelors degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
5+ years of experience in infrastructure engineering, including cloud and virtualization platforms
Hands-on experience administering Azure environments in production
Experience supporting VMware environments, preferably Azure VMware Solution (AVS)
Strong knowledge of Azure networking, compute, storage, and identity services
Experience troubleshooting complex, multi-tier environments
Strong communication skills and customer-focused mindset
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with hybrid cloud architectures and enterprise-scale environments
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code tools such as ARM, Bicep, Terraform, or similar
Experience with automation and scripting (PowerShell, Azure CLI, etc.)
Azure certifications (e.g., Azure Administrator, Azure Solutions Architect)
VMware certifications (VCP or equivalent)
