Newterra's journey began in 1992 with the founding of Maple Leaf Environmental Equipment in Brockville, Ontario, though its roots trace back even further through its portfolio of heritage brands, some dating to 1863. Originally established to supply environmental remediation equipment to the Canadian market, the company quickly pivoted to manufacturing its own modular systems, pioneering a shift from build-on-site to delivered-to-site solutions. This innovative approach allowed for greater quality control and rapid deployment, setting the stage for the company's expansion into the US groundwater remediation market in 2001.

Over the decades, the company, rebranded as Newterra in 2012, grew through a strategic combination of organic development and key acquisitions. It expanded its capabilities to include potable water, industrial process water, and wastewater treatment, serving diverse sectors from mining and private development to municipal markets. In 2020, Newterra was acquired by private equity firm Frontenac, fueling further growth and the acquisition of companies like TIGG and H2O Engineering. This trajectory of expansion culminated in August 2025, when Newterra was acquired by Grundfos, a global leader in advanced pump solutions and water technology, marking a new chapter in its mission to provide sustainable water solutions worldwide.
