Newsweek is the global media organization that has earned audience time and trust for more than 90 years. Newsweek reaches 100 million people each month with thought-provoking news, opinion, images, graphics, and video delivered across a dozen print and digital platforms. Headquartered in New York City, Newsweek also publishes international editions in EMEA and Asia.

Newsweek is hiring a full-time investigative reporter to join our new Fast Enterprise editorial team.

The Chief Investigative Reporter will conceive, report and write original, compelling, high impact journalism for Newsweek’s website and weekly magazine, including both in-depth enterprise and quick turn scoops.

This reporter is proficient in publishing investigative work at a fast pace on topics including politics, legal affairs, the economy, national security, immigration, the environment, and other issues.

The Chief Investigative Reporter will be an ideas machine adept at conceiving unique angles on big national stories and finding underreported gems. He or she will be a star at pitching ideas, ensuring that the story content is clear and has context, and working collaboratively with their team and with the newsroom as needed.

This reporter will have a deep knowledge of current events, work with a sense of urgency, and an inquiring mind on how to take big swings at the news of the moment.

This reporter will be responsible for execution of the Fast Enterprise Team’s editorial agenda in partnership with the standards editor and the executive editor. We value journalists who are collaborative, communicative, and inquisitive.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Spearheading investigative reporting with a sense of urgency.
  • Mentoring in-house reporters of various experience levels.
  • Pitch stories that could go in front of and behind the paywall, with an emphasis on growing our subscription offering.
  • Create a reporting workflow of both quick turn angles into breaking news and original enterprise reporting that can range from 400-word news hits to 1,000-word features with original photography.
  • Bring an array of contacts to help the team gain access to interviews and profiles so that we can set the agenda with original reporting.

Qualifications:

  • Experience conducting investigative reportage.
  • Familiarity with filing public records requests, sifting through legal documents, using artificial intelligence, cultivating sources and finding stories inside of data.
  • Excellent pitching, reporting and storytelling skills.
  • Ability to work across teams to collaborate on story ideas, cover breaking news, in-depth, explanatory pieces and other content coverage.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand diverse perspectives.
  • An understanding of how to conceive and execute high impact stories for a digital consumer.

Salary range: $100,000 - $110,000
