Opportunity for impact
Newfire is seeking a Data Analytics
What's the Project?
The Analytics Engineer / BI Developer bridges the gap between raw data and business knowledge in our Snowflake and Azure environment. You act as a critical technical partner to our Analysts and Data Product Owners, filling the technical gap required to build professional, reliable, and high-fidelity reports. While you aren't expected to be an expert in every facet of the business from day one, you have a "student of the business" mindset—learning enough context to ensure the technical solutions you build are meaningful and impactful.
Your day-to-day activities:
Strategic Partnership: Act as the primary technical counterpart to Analysts and Data Product Owners to co-create reporting solutions.- Technical Gap-Filling: Take conceptual business questions and translate them into robust technical implementations, ensuring dashboards are performant and accurate.
- Gold Layer & Star Schemas: Transform Silver-layer data into optimized Gold-layer Star Schemas designed for end-user analysis.
- Semantic Layer Development: Build and maintain the Semantic Layer (using dbt and potentially Cube) to ensure consistent metric definitions across the organization.
- BI Development: Design and deliver high-fidelity dashboards and exports in modern environments like Hex, Lightdash, or Metabase.
- QA & Documentation: Ensure every deliverable meets the team's Definition of Done, including rigorous parity checks and documented logic.
- As a Senior team member, you will be expected to actively participate in our hiring processes by serving on interview panels for future roles across the company.
You’re a perfect match if you have:
- Data Modeling : Strong knowledge of Dimensional Modeling (Star Schemas) and the Medallion Architecture lifecycle.
- Modern Analytics Stack: Expert-level SQL and dbt skills; experience with Snowflake on Azure.
- BI & Semantic Tools: Deep experience with modern BI tools (Hex, Lightdash, or Metabase) and headless BI/semantic layers.
- Analytics Testing: Experience writing dbt data tests to catch regressions; experience with TDD is a bonus.
- Collaborative Partner: You view Analysts and Product Owners as teammates, not just "internal customers."
- Business Curiosity: A proactive desire to learn the underlying business logic and "why" behind the data.
- Meticulousness: Proactive about finding data discrepancies before the business does.
- Technical Translator: The ability to explain technical constraints or possibilities to non-technical stakeholders.
