This Sr Director, Business Development – Middlie Market will drive the overall strategy development, implementation and management of multiple target industries and practices critical to business productivity goals. You will develop sales routines and strategies that drive Middle Market business success for the Middle Market field practice teams.

Additional skills and experience necessary for success in this role include:

*Proven experience in sales development and distribution management in Middle Market

*Prior history with organizational sales program transformation

*Ability to travel and engage with Middle Market agents and broker stakeholders

This person in this role can work remotely or in a hybrid environment if near a company office.

As a Sr Director, you'll drive the overall strategy development, implementation and management of multiple target markets and business segments critical to business productivity goals. You will develop strategies that drive business success. You'll direct the development and implementation of strategic long- and short-range plans to uncover business opportunities for the sales team.

Job Description

Key Responsibilities:

  • Identifies key organizations and/or institutions, representing the best sales opportunity and develops strategic relationships with them to help facilitate sales.

  • Develops strategies to remove political, environmental or social barriers to achieving business unit sales objectives.

  • Identifies areas of sales opportunity and solutions for gaps in business that require sales team coverage to acquire or retain accounts.

  • Develops, sponsors and leads key initiatives to address business strategy and profitability objectives. Ensures that initiatives and plans are consistent with long-term vision and direction.

  • Serves as the key participant in business planning sessions with sales leadership to identify target markets and develop productivity goals.

  • Develops and maintains business relationships with key groups and/or individuals for the purpose of sales expansion.

  • Directs research, identification and selection of the best opportunities for sales expansion within target market(s).

  • Owns the selection and recommendations of the best existing markets or channels to improve sales coverage.

  • Establishes strategic partnerships with other functions (Nationwide Technology, Marketing, Sales, etc.) to identify needs/opportunities for team.

  • Leads the development of large-scale business development presentations, as well as market conduct/return on investment reports for delivery to leadership. Uses information to influence strategic decisions.

  • Directs associate management, including performance, training and development, workflow planning, hiring and placement and disciplinary actions.

May perform other responsibilities as assigned.

Reporting Relationships:Reports to VP or SVP.

Typical Skills and Experiences:

Education:Undergraduate degree in business administration or related field; master's degree preferred.

Experience:Minimum of 10 years of sales or business development experience, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry.

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills: Expert understanding of sales, marketing and business development practices. Proven ability to lead and influence others. Strong eye for business. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong ability to understand and analyze business information needs, analyze data requests and develop relationships. Strong customer focus, dedication to results and optimistic. Proven ability to lead team and drive business results.

Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.

Staffing exceptions to the above must be approved by the hiring manager’s leader and Human Resource Business Partner.
