Milliman SkySail is looking for a Senior Analytics Engineer to join our team. Your role will be to support our Analysts within our data platform, with a focus on ingesting, transforming, and presenting data within the Databricks platform.

Milliman Skysail is a consulting and software-as-a-service (SaaS) unit of Milliman that leads the way in pharmacy claims analysis and reporting. SkySail Rx was founded in 2015 and acquired by Milliman in 2021. We are a fast-growing team of around fifty expert individual contributors. We specialize in analyzing pharmaceutical claims, data engineering, and application development. We place a strong emphasis on individual contribution and continuous learning.

By joining our data platform team as a Senior Analytics Engineer, you will play a critical role in bridging the gap between complex data environments and actionable business insights. By enhancing our data platform's capabilities, you'll enable Analysts to extract meaningful patterns, trends, and metrics from vast datasets. Within our organization, SQL is used extensively and will be an important tool for you in preparing data to be utilized in Semantic Layers by Analysts and the Applications they use. As an Analytics Engineer, you will also utilize languages such as Spark and Python as well as visualization tools such as Power BI to prepare tools and data for our Analysts. Collaborating closely with data analysts, application developers, and the other members of the Data Platform team, you will help build robust, scalable data solutions, ensuring secure and efficient data processing and analysis. Your expertise will be key in driving our data strategy, supporting the delivery of industry-leading services and products, and maintaining the highest standards of data quality, security, and integrity across our data initiatives.

Job Responsibilities

What you'll do as a Senior Analytics Engineer at Milliman SkySail

  • Diligently and rapidly execute data processing and analysis tasks as directed by our Analysts, focusing on ingesting, transforming, and presenting data within the Databricks platform.
  • Implement and optimize data pipelines and workflows using SQL, Python, and Spark based on Analyst requirements, ensuring best practices for scalability and efficiency.
  • Create and manage data visualizations and reports using tools like Power BI, directly aligning with Analysts' specifications to support data-driven insights.
  • Provide technical feedback, suggesting optimizations and enhancements to data models and analytics approaches based on technical assessments.
  • Work collaboratively with data analysts, application developers, and other data platform team members to ensure seamless integration and high-quality data solutions, maintaining a service-oriented approach to support the analytics and application development team's objectives.
  • Participate in peer review processes, providing and receiving constructive feedback to improve the quality and efficiency of data solutions.

  • As an Analytics Engineer at SkySail, you’ll have many opportunities and be encouraged to develop your personal subject matter expertise within the pharmacy claims domain as well as provide ideas to Analysts and Subject Matter Experts on new tools and approaches to pull insights from vast data sets.

Minimum Requirements

  • High school degree required. Associate or bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years of relevant work experience as an Analytics Engineer or related role.
  • Familiarity with Databricks.

Competences and Behaviors that Support Success in this Role

  • Experience working with datasets with 100MM+ rows.
  • Experience using the databricks platform.
  • Familiarity with multiple approaches to dealing with enterprise data. e.g. Kimball approach, Inmon approach, Lakehouse, etc.
  • Familiarity with AWS.
  • Proven ability to work independently and with teams to identify and overcome challenges and roadblocks.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Salary: The salary range is $96,000 to $194,000, depending on relevant factors, including but not limited to education, work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, location, etc.

Location: This is a remote position with periodic travel within the US, particularly to our offices in Cleveland, Denver, and Dallas.
