About the Role
Our Network Edge team is responsible for building and operating Menlo Security's edge
network. We enable our customers to connect to the Internet without compromise. Our
environment provides services globally. We expect failure, build security in by design, create evolvable systems, and enable multi-tenancy across the infrastructure. Automation is an absolute for us. We are committed to getting it done properly, the first time. As a hands-on Engineering Manager, you'll be serving as the leader for a group of engineers located in the North America region that are part of a globally distributed team responsible for handling the company's core infrastructure services and maintaining our constantly growing platform. The team is responsible for developing and operating Menlo Security’s edge network systems and infrastructure. Success in this role requires strong technical leadership skills, a broad background and understanding of systems, network, and application. You will focus on streamlining processes and increasing the team's autonomy as well as being hands on with delivering technical tasks yourself.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of engineers on a variety of projects and collaborate with other internal
teams to build our products and services. Lead by example, mentor the team, and
establish credibility through quality technical execution.
- Be a technical leader on the team, ensuring that you are setting a high standard of
quality for the technical changes on the team.
- join the technical on call rotation for the team and will use that experience to help guide
team direction
- Manage on-call rotations using a data-driven approach to improve the on-call experience
and prevent alert fatigue.
- Develop, update, and communicate team roadmap and projects to provide clarity on
team deliverables
- Help team members connect their work to business objectives
- Hold team members accountable to deadlines and desired results and impact
- Build a high performing and inclusive team that knows their expected outcomes and
delivers on those results on time and with a high standard of quality
○ Partner with the recruiting and HR team to source,interview, and onboard new
hires as needed,
○ Partner with HR and SMEs to keep employees up to date on critical and relevant
technical skills
○ Work with engineers to develop their careers and align on long term career goals.
○ Assess employee performance with intellectual honesty, recognizing and
rewarding performance and proactively addressing and managing
under-performance
○ Build a team culture that aligns with the core values of Menlo
○ Manage change with employees and foster an environment of resilience so that
change is embraced by employees
- Understand technical architectures, capacity modeling, project plans, and manage
prioritization.
- Partner with Product Management and Customer Success teams to address customer
needs.
- Effectively communicate cross functionally across teams
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, similar technical field of study, or equivalent
practical experience.
- At least 3 years of direct management experience in a technology company, including
hiring and performance management.
- Hands-on experience with GNU/Linux systems and TCP/IP network fundamentals (for
this role you will be doing technical work)
- Strong experience with public cloud providers.
- Planning across different disciplines: Capacity Planning and Efficient Resource.
utilization, cost management, project management, and communication planning.
