The UNIX/LINUX System Engineer- Mid provides day-to-day administration of UNIX/Linux server infrastructure supporting the SEC ISS contract, SEC OIT mission operations, and HALSI/HPC service environments. This role maintains secure, stable server operations across physical and virtual environments, including imaging, patching, hardening, and automated deployment activities.
Requirements
- Administer UNIX/Linux servers on a daily basis to ensure availability, performance, and operational stability.
- Maintain server hardware and operating system software across assigned environments.
- Build and image servers using approved imaging and provisioning tools.
- Execute routine maintenance activities, including updates, configuration changes, and lifecycle tasks.
- Perform regular patching of UNIX/Linux systems to maintain security posture and platform currency.
- Apply server hardening standards and secure configuration baselines in accordance with SEC policy direction.
- Perform automated deployments for approved UNIX/Linux server builds and updates.
- Maintain technical documentation and change-control records to support operational governance and audit readiness.
- Work primarily in virtualized infrastructure environments supporting UNIX/Linux guest systems.
- Support repeatable deployment and configuration activities for UNIX/Linux systems using approved enterprise methods.
- Assist with operational monitoring and system health activities for virtual server environments.
- Coordinate with platform teams to implement approved infrastructure changes with minimal service disruption.
- Perform basic troubleshooting and restoration for UNIX/Linux server incidents and service issues.
- Escalate complex technical issues to Senior Administrators with clear diagnostics and impact details.
- Update incident, request, and change records in approved ticketing systems.
- Collaborate across infrastructure and operations teams to improve reliability and reduce repeat incidents.
