Leidos has an exciting opportunity to hire an Azure Virtual Desktop Engineer supporting the USAF Next Generation Mission Planning program. You’ll be joining a dynamic team taking Azure Cloud solutions for the DoD to the next level. In this opportunity you’ll help manage and design Azure Virtual Desktop (AVD) solutions supporting 40+ developer groups employing cutting-edge technology stacks. As part of the team, you’ll be tasked with implementing, managing and optimizing AVDs and Virtual Machines (VM), with time to learn & train on existing solutions while driving speed & capability enhancements for our warfighters. Leidos provides a real work-life balance with 3-day weekends and flexible hours.

Primary Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be energetic, organized, eager to learn and comfortable working & speaking in a team environment, placing a high value on collaboration and team success. Core responsibilities include:

  • Architecting/managing secure, high availability systems, adhering to industry standards and following best practices
  • Implementing, managing & optimizing AVD solutions in CI/CD pipelines
  • Designing & implementing approaches to continuously update & secure AVD resources
  • Developing scripts to automate tasks and deployments in a cloud environment.
  • Documenting systems and processes for capability growth and improved team collaboration.
  • Learning and adapting to new Azure cloud resources, with opportunities for formal training.

Basic Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship (no dual or Green Card/Permanent Resident Card)
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Secret-level Security Clearance
  • Bachelors Degree and 4+ years of experience in Azure and AVD technologies or similar Virtual Desktop solutions OR experience in lieu of a degree
  • Experience with Windows Installer technologies and implementation on shared VM resources
  • Experience architecting & designing Azure-based solutions
  • Understanding of high-availability environments such as clustering, failover, and geographic redundancy
  • Understanding of network design & topologies including edge services & point-to-point VPNs within cloud environs
  • Proficiency with MS Office Products (Word, Excel, Visio, & PowerPoint); demonstrable documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft Azure, AWS, RHEL, and/or Windows Server certification(s)
  • Proficient with a scripting programming language like Bash, Python, or PowerShell
  • Proficiency with Configuration Management techniques using Ansible
  • Experience with managed Anti-virus tools like McAfee and Trellix ePolicy Orchestrator
  • Familiarization with Secure Technical Implementation Guide (STIG) implementation
  • Atlassian Tools Suite experience (Jira, Confluence, Bamboo and Bitbucket)

Leidos' story begins in 1969 when Dr. J. Robert Beyster, a visionary scientist, founded Science Applications Incorporated (SAI) in La Jolla, San Diego, California. This strategic move allowed Leidos to sharpen its focus on national security, health, and engineering solutions. Another major milestone occurred in August 2016 when Leidos merged with Lockheed Martin's Information Systems & Global Solutions (IS&GS) business, a landmark transaction that created the defense industry's largest IT services provider and significantly expanded Leidos' capabilities and market share. Today, Leidos stands as a Fortune 500® global science and technology leader, employing approximately 47,000 people worldwide and generating billions in annual revenue, committed to making the world safer, healthier, and more efficient through innovation and technology.
