KOBIL's story began in 1986, a venture sparked by the vision of founder Ismet Koyun. The company, rooted in Worms, Germany, initially made its mark with a personal computer featuring an innovative additional keyboard for hard disk encryption and decryption. This early focus on security laid the groundwork for KOBIL's evolution into a significant player in the information security landscape. As technology progressed, so did KOBIL's offerings. In 1994, the company pivoted towards chip card terminals, developing a range of card readers. This was a stepping stone to a major breakthrough in 1996 when KOBIL secured the world's first patent related to digital signatures. This period also saw the development of SecOVID and Smart Key, two novel authentication and public key infrastructure (PKI) solutions, further cementing KOBIL's reputation as an innovator in digital security.

The new millennium brought continued growth and recognition. In 2005, KOBIL's mIDentity, the world's first installation-free smart card terminal launched two years prior, received a notable mention from Microsoft founder Bill Gates for its positive impact on internet security. The company's commitment to excellence was further acknowledged in 2009 with the Platinum European Seal of e-Excellence. KOBIL continued to adapt to the evolving digital world, releasing its first application security technology in 2012, which later took on the mIDentity name in 2014. A significant development came in 2016 with the commencement of work on a secure communication platform, mPower, which was launched in 2019. This platform incorporated binding and non-anonymous communication, digital signatures, and business process flows. The same year, KOBIL introduced signPod, a pioneering online PKI-based transaction verification device featuring an M2M eSIM card. By the close of 2019, KOBIL's transaction authentication number (TAN) app was utilized by an impressive 30 million people, underscoring its widespread adoption and trust. Today, KOBIL Systems stands as a global technology company specializing in secure digital identity and all-in-one multi-sided platform technologies, serving millions of users worldwide and continuing its journey of innovation in cybersecurity.
